Today, several states have either passed or have pending legislation that calls for a ban of lead wheel weights. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is actively pursuing rulemaking that would ban lead wheel weights at the federal level. Zinc weights, and coated steel weights, are both legal alternatives to traditional lead weights.
